The Best 5 Tools To Generate Domain Name Ideas

2 minute read

Do you have an awesome idea for a website? Sweet! Now, you need to find a domain name for your awesome idea.

Finding the right domain name can take some time and quite a bit of research, but it doesn’t have to be grueling. I have gone through a bunch of domain name idea generators and chosen the top 5 to list for you to use.

Confused about what a domain name is? Check out my explanation of domain names in the web hosting guide.

Shopify Business Name Generator

Shopify Screenshot This one is by far my favorite tool to search for a domain name. The interface is clean, easy to use, and loads quickly. The ideas generated include your search query and a prefix, suffix, or both added. The results returned by the search are only for available .com domain names.

To use, enter your terms in the search box and click on the generate names button.

Wordoid

Wordoid Screenshot This is a more complex tool with filtering options for domains. The suggestions returned are excellent and searching for more is as easy as clicking the next button.

On the left side of the page, select the language to use, quality of the results, pattern, and length. The quality setting defines how well the results resemble natural words.

Enter your search terms in the pattern box and select an option of beginning with, containing, or ending with your terms.

When ready, click on the create wordoids button at the top of the left hand side of the page.

Namesmith

Namesmith Screenshot This is one of the more creative tools I have come across. The results returned are according to certain themes, such as blends, rhymes, suffixes, and modifications. This could help you to find more interesting and brandable ideas.

To use, enter the search terms on the home page and click on the search button. You will end up at a page with results and a top level domain filter on the left side.

To see more results from each section, use the drop-down at the top of the results page or click on the show more link at the bottom of the section.

Namebird

Namebird Screenshot This one has some pretty good suggestions for domain names, is easy to navigate to additional ideas, and has some advanced filtering tools. For really advanced searches, Namebird allows for using regular expressions.

The search box is a little difficult to find. Look under the basic word maker header at the top of the left side. It’s in the second row under the input heading.

When ready, click on the make words button to search.

Namemesh

Namemesh Screenshot The results provided here are grouped into a number of different sections, including common, similar, new, seo, short, fun, extra, and mix. The variety is neat for giving you more ideas to search on. While the results are not as extensive as some other tools, the quality is usually pretty good.

To search, enter terms into the box at the top of the page and click on the generate button. To the right of the search box are some options to filter domain results by top level domain, character length, and availability.
